How do KOMFORTEX® floors contribute to your horse’s health?

Joint protection through elasticity

KOMFORTEX® elastic slabs achieve excellent and long-lasting elasticity thanks to the sophisticated material mix of recycled rubber granulate and PU binder. Even after 250,000 alternating loads at the same point (an alternating load is roughly equivalent to a horse kicking), the penetration depth changes by only 0.1 mm (DLG test report 6182 F). This lasting elasticity and springy effect when walking ensures that your horse’s joints are protected.

Protection of the horse

The soft, elastic surface absorbs the impact of kicks and movements, thus protecting the horse’s joints and tendons. This can lead to a long-term reduction in injuries and wear and tear. Furthermore, the kick wall protection prevents wounds and abrasions, as horses can no longer chafe themselves against the walls.

Protection of the horse

The elastic and stable wall kick plate effectively prevents damage to wooden or brick walls.

Abrasion-resistant surface

KOMFORTEX® horse flooring is extremely resistant to abrasion due to the high compression and high-quality raw materials used. In an endurance test with an artificial hoof (diameter 105 mm) with 250,000 alternating loads (an alternating load roughly corresponds to a horse’s kick), no significant wear was detected on the surface (DLG test report 6182 F). Thus, hardly any abrasion gets into the environment. Even for hooves themselves, KOMFORTEX® elastic slabs are much gentler than concrete.

No deformation due to climatic influences

In a test in a cold chamber at -20°C, the KOMFORTEX® elastic slabs shrinks by only 3 mm. At 40°C, it expands by only 1.5 mm. Both values are so low that they do not result in any restrictions for practical use. No deformations occur and the plates do not start to bulge. In addition to the sophisticated material, which is specially designed to meet the needs of equestrian sports, the connectors also ensure additional dimensional stability.

High slip resistance

According to the DLG test framework, flooring in horse husbandry must have a coefficient of friction of at least μ = 0.45 in order to be considered non-slip. The KOMFORTEX® elastic slabs easily meets this limit in both dry and wet conditions, whether with or without hooves. Compared to concrete floors, they perform about three times as well in terms of slip resistance. Our products also meet the new DIN 3763:2022-08.

Chemically resistant material

Long-term tests by the DLG (German Agricultural Society) confirm that KOMFORTEX® elastic slabs are resistant to chemicals (such as uric acid, ammonia or hoof oil). In the test, the product is completely immersed in the respective chemical for 28 days – in practice, the product would never be in such close contact with these chemicals. Even under these extreme test conditions, neither significant hardening nor significant weight loss of KOMFORTEX® elastic panels was observed. The material therefore only reacts with these chemicals to an insignificant extent and protects the health of your horse.
