Acoustic problems in gyms are a big problem, but avoiding them can be easy. Our Gymcoustic systems are finishing floor solutions offering increasingly high performances and are all applied directly on top of the existing, load-bearing and form-stable subfloors, e.g. concrete, cement bonded screed, meaning they are ideal for renovations and can also be used in new-builds. As well as their technical performance, they respond to the practical challenge of maintaining athletes stability underfoot ensuring that both the gym and its members benefit.

Safe & Sound: Stability Rating
It is difficult to combine strength and resilience in one floor, but acoustic solutions for free weight areas require both. If the floor is too soft, weightlifting safety is not guaranteed. If the floor is too hard, the acoustic performance when dropping is minimal.
The method we developed to measure the Stability Rating reflects the ability of the elastic floor covering not to give way despite its elasticity and to prevent the athlete from sinking into the floor even under the highest loads. This ensures a safe stance so that he can concentrate solely on his exercise. The “Stability Rating” thus shows how dimensionally stable the floor is. A high value in percent indicates that the floor does not give way despite the highest loads, that it gives the athlete a secure stance and that he is not pressed into the floor.
Safe & Sound: Stability Rating
The weight of the athlete and the weight of the barbell + attached weights are taken into account. We calculate with 90 kg body weight, 10 kg dumbbell weight and 200 kg weights, which equals a total weight of 300 kg. For the foot surface, which is ultimately the actual surface that touches the floor covering, we assume 60,000 mm², which corresponds roughly to shoe size 45.
- We measure the deflection of the floor covering, i.e. how far you sink in with the weight described above.
- Calculation of the Stability Rating in %: (total height of the system – deflection) / total height of the system * 100.
- Grouping into the quality levels
Our SPORTEC® Gymcoustic systems were specially developed for use in the weight area and combine the elasticity of a rubber floor covering with the stability of a solid surface. This combination enables the athlete to safely pursue his sport here and to always perform at his best.
